For more about UMC and social justice, we recommend visiting these sites:
The Civic Engagement group is focused on staying informed about local issues that adversely affect marginalized people and advocating for change. This includes topics such as Affordable Housing and Voting Rights. We strive to broaden awareness of the issues and what actions we can take to have our voices be heard.
The Creation Care group recognizes that “rather than treating creation as if it were placed here solely for humanity’s use and consumption, we are called to practice responsible stewardship and to live in right relationship with the Creator and with the whole of God’s creation.” (from UMC 2024 Revised Social Principles). Our focus is to educate church members and staff on ways we as a church and community can reduce the damage we are doing to the earth and restore and “take care of it” as we were called to do in Genesis!
The LGBTQ+ Allies group is committed to advancing our church’s mission to Welcome All, Love All, and Serve All. Our mission is to create an inclusive and affirming space where LGBTQ+ individuals and families feel fully welcomed and embraced in our church community. Through advocacy, education, and support initiatives, we strive to ensure that all are treated with dignity, respect, and love regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
The Racial Justice group believes all humans are created in the image of God and hold equal value in God’s Kingdom. Christians are called to be reconciled to one another. To that end, the Racial Justice group aims to become more aware and to understand the embedded divisions and unequal privileges prevalent in our local community by seeking paths to healing, fostering authentic relationships, hearing one another’s pain, and transforming ourselves in order to follow God’s call to reconciliation.
