Director of Contemporary Worship and Youth Associate

Job Summary –
The Director of Contemporary Worship & Youth Associate is responsible for 1) organizing, planning, and leading the contemporary worship services for Apex UMC, and 2) supporting the Youth Ministry team with programming such as: Sunday night Youth, mission trips, retreats, and special events.

Hours Per Week: 40, including Sunday a.m.
Status: Full-time
Reports to: Teaching Pastor
FLSA: Salaried, Non-Exempt
Supervises: N/A

 

Essential Functions and Duties – 

  • Contemporary Worship (25 hours) 
    • Oversee the planning, preparation, and execution of contemporary worship at the Apex Campus.
      • Serve as the primary worship leader for contemporary worship services.
      • Meet weekly with pastors and other worship staff to plan meaningful and beautiful worship services. Communicate changes and special needs to volunteer worship leaders.
      • Plan and input worship elements for Sunday services into Planning Center.
      • Schedule band, vocalists, and worship volunteers through Planning Center.
      • Lead special services throughout the year as assigned, such as Ash Wednesday, Christmas Eve, worship services as part of youth retreats, etc.
      • Provide music for funerals and other special events as requested.
      • Produce and manage the contemporary worship budget.
      • Manage musical instrument and equipment repair, maintenance, replacement and security. 
    • Lead the Contemporary Worship Band.
      • Identify, invite, and equip a diverse and multi­generational group of gifted and called musicians and other artists to provide passionate and relevant music as a part of the contemporary worship services. 
      • Conduct weekly rehearsals with the Contemporary Worship Band.
      • Arrive prior to band rehearsal to make sure the space is set up and ready for practice to begin on time. 
      • Nurture fellowship and Christian community among band members.
    • Recruit, train, and lead teams of worship volunteers.
      • Facilitate the Contemporary Worship Team, who provides vision, direction, and aesthetics for the contemporary service.
      • Recruit and train worship volunteers in coordination with volunteer  worship coordinator, usher coordinator and AV team.
      • Oversee stage design, set-up/take-down of seating, and other physical space requirements.

 

  • Youth Associate (15 hours)
    • Lead the Youth Praise Band
      • Conduct weekly rehearsals with the Youth Praise Band
      • Support the Youth Praise Band in leading worship for Youth Group, youth retreats and service weeks, and for occasional Sunday morning services.
      • Serve as a spiritual mentor for Youth Praise Band members.
      • Nurture Christian community among Youth Praise Band members.
    • Build relationships with students and parents within the church & community.
      • Help recruit, develop, and empower adult volunteers, especially in the High School ministry.
      • Assist with administrative needs of the whole Youth Ministry including forms, registrations, community relations, fundraising, and newsletters. 
      • Plan, develop, and implement grade-specific events & retreats, with consultation from the Youth Ministry Director. 
      • Maintain effective communication with the Youth Ministry Director, Youth Council (adults & students), and other church staff.
      • Aid in the development and procurement of meaningful resources for the spiritual development of youth.
      • Leadership of youth ministry groups and classes as determined in consultation with the Youth Ministry Director.
      • Seek and complete continuing education opportunities designed to enhance knowledge and expand skills associated with this position.

 

Minimum Qualifications – 

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • At least 3 years of worship leadership and youth ministry experience.
  • Proficiency on guitar and/or piano, and proven experience as a vocalist, teacher and instructor. 
  • Experience with ProPresenter is preferred.

Physical Requirements – 

  • This position may require kneeling, squatting, and lifting heavy equipment.
  • This position may require standing for an extended period of time and moving filming and recording equipment as needed.
